New Literacies
Resources produced in the New Literacies project
The media literacy and programming competence resources developed in the New Literacies project were prepared for the purpose of supporting the competence of both children and young people as well as pedagogical staff and work communities in early childhood education and care and in pre-primary and basic education.- The media literacy resources promote the competence of children and young people in interpreting and producing media as well as in operating in media environments. The programming competence support resources develop computational thinking, skills in inquiry-based work and production, and skills in understanding programmed environments and how to operate in them.
- The resources strengthen teachers’ pedagogical competence when teaching media literacy and programming competence. At the same time, they offer tools for local development and the promotion of media and programming skills as a transversal competence.
- The resources support the implementation of national descriptions of media literacy and programming competence. The resources are based on a pedagogy in line with the national core curricula for early childhood education and care, pre-primary education, and basic education.
